Jonathan Must Be Prosecuted – Christian Group

The phones no longer ring but the blames are still following Goodluck Jonathan.

Following the revelations that have continued to trail the controversial $2.1 billion arms procurement fund saga otherwise known as DasukiGate, the Lagos State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria has called for the prosecution of immediate-past President Goodluck Jonathan, under whose tenure the alleged infractions took place.

Speaking over the weekend on the heels of an interdenominational service that held in Lagos, the Chairman of the chapter, Apostle Alexander Bamgbola, said it was not as bad as it looked to put the former president on trial if he is deemed to have been involved in the alleged misappropriation of funds.

Citing examples of other world leaders in recent history who have been tried for corrupt practices and jailed, Bamgbola said the law was no respecter of persons and must take its course.

When asked if he thought it appropriate for the former president to be put on trial, the cleric said: , “What is wrong with it? A former President of Peru (Alberto Fujimori) was jailed. Also, a popular prime minister of Israel (Ehud Olmert) was jailed. If a nation puts you in a position of trust and you betray that trust, you should go to jail no matter who you are. I have no sympathy for anybody. Just make sure you get it right, and we get the facts right as well.”

Bamgbola decried the pervasive nature of corruption in the country and urged the Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari to make sure that anyone found guilty of corruption is jailed, no matter how highly placed.

“Put them where they belong, so that we may have peace in this nation,” he said.
