A Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday sentenced a 20-year-old man, Sunday Abiodun, to six months imprisonment for drug peddling.

Abiodun, a trader, had pleaded guilty to a one-count charge the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) brought against him.

Justice Rabiu Shagari, who sentenced the accused, said the prison term would run from the day of his arrest.

Ahead of the sentence, the prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, had tendered as evidence the statement of the accused, a request for scientific aid form, as well as the bulk of exhibit.

The prosecutor told the court that Abiodun was arrested on Oct. 30, 2015 at Abule Oja in Yaba, with about 200g of Cannabis Sativa, also called Indian hemp.

He said that Abiodun, who sold the drug as a trade, was consequently arrested and detained.

The offence is said to have contravened the provisions of sections 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30 Laws of the Federation 2004. (NAN)
