2 Min Read

The Nigeria Police Force has said that a report in the media captioned “Protest greets police postings” is malicious and misleading.

According to a statement by the Force Spokeman, Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Don Awunah in Abuja on Tuesday, the report is entirely false, malicious and cable of misleading the members of the public.

“The story is absolutely a figment of the imagination of the writer, however it is pertinent to educate the writer and set the record straight,” he said.

He explained that transfers and postings in the force are administrative and routine, aimed at enhancing efficiency of officers.

Awunah added that it was misleading to assert that the recent transfers and postings in the police were based on witch-hunting, tribalism and favoritism.

He said that the officer alluded to in the report that was transfered to the headquarters hails from Niger, while the other posted to Lagos hails from Osun.

The spokesman said that redeployments, transfers, re-assignments and secondments were administrative and within the powers of the IG.

“Protest in this regard amounts to serious misconduct and can attract commensurate sanctions,” he said.

“The Nigeria Police Force, wishes to assure the media of its support and cooperation to ensure crime free-society and credible reportage,” he said.

He advised the print media not to allow their medium to be used to publish unverified reports and stories capable of causing disaffection.

“The I.G, Ibrahim Idris will not be distracted or deterred from carrying out his statutory responsibilities for the benefit of the police and members of the public,” he said.( NAN)
