Monica Osagie, the lady at the centre of the sex-for-marks scandal rocking the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, has appeared before the committee set up by the school to probe the incident.

An audio recording of a senior academic staff of the school, Prof Richard Akindele, allegedly soliciting for sex in exchange for marks from Osagie had gone viral earlier in the month, prompting the school to set up the panel.

In an interim report submitted to the school, the panel had recommended Prof. Akindele’s indefinite suspension pending the conclusion of investigations.

However, the panel had expressed the constraints on it to execute its mandate without the student, who had initially refused to identify herself.

She has since stepped out to be identified.

Reports said she was seen walking into the Vice Chancellor’s Lodge on the university campus on Tuesday afternoon, where the panel is meeting, in company of her lawyer.

The Punch quoted the school’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, as confirming the meeting.

However, journalists and members of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) were reportedly prevented from witnessing the meeting.
