Ekiti Election: 10 Suspects Dragged to Court for ‘Bribing’ Voters Before Election

Ten suspects have been paraded by the police on Friday, July 20, before an Ado-Ekiti magistrate’s court for their alleged participation in vote buying during the Ekiti governorship election.

According to reports from The Nation, Femi Falade, the police prosecutor told the court that they allegedly presented some money to voters, encouraging them to vote for the party who gave them the money.

Femi, in his allegation, cited several provisions of the law which violated sections of the Electoral Act.

The persons who were accused in this crime include: Odunayo Toyin, Eunice Olowsile, Ayodele Omolara, Udoh Anthony, Ajayi Modupe, Roseline Tunde, Suliat Habib and Babalola Esther.

Femi further stated that other persons who committed same crime but are now nowhere to be found actually carried out the deed on Friday at a shopping complex in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that Eunice Olowosile boldly gave out wads of cash to people and lured them to vote for her political party to ensure they win the governorship race.

The police prosecutor also said that Modupe Ajayi and other voters accepted the bribe without being mindful that it is corruption.

The defendants however, refused to plead guilty to the charge as their lawyer prayed the court to grant them bail.

The head of the court’s Magistrate, Adesoji Adegboye, in his verdict granted them bail each with the sum of  fifty thousand naira and one referee each.
