Cenk Tosun gave the visitors the lead in the first half but the Cityzens characteristically continued to play their game and their hardwork paid off in the 80th minute when Sergio Aguero equalised for the home side and put them into the lead 7 minutes later.

But all that hardwork was undone when City’s makeshift defender put one into his own net handling the visitors a deserved draw at the Ethiad.

“We did everything to win the game and unfortunately in the end we lost two points because we could not stop the counter-attack,” said Guardiola.

“But we have to continue. There are still a lot of games to play. We have to try to secure the place for the Champions League next season.”

City trail log leaders Liverpool by 13 points while Crystal Palace remains 9th.

Sergio Aguero was the man of the match.
