The Chairman, North East Governors Forum, Prof. Babagana Zulum says the change of the nation’s service chiefs has not reflected positively on the fight against insurgents in the region.
Zulum, who is also the Governor of Borno State, spoke at the 4th meeting of the forum held in Bauchi on Wednesday.
The governor advised the military heads to deploy new tactics to reverse the gains being recorded by the insurgents.
Furthermore, Zulum urged the Federal Government to hire mercenaries and collaborate with the nation’s neighbours to end the insurgency.
“Service chiefs have been changed, expectedly, a new strategy by the new chiefs should be formed as insecurity in Northeast is taking a new turn for the worst because the tactics presently employed is having limited impact.
“The federal government should seek for support from neighbours with a view to finding solution to end insurgency.
“The use of hired mercenaries should also be employed to end the insurgency. And for us to permanently address the problems of insecurity, out-of-school children and infrastructural deficit, we must stem corruption,” he stated.

The Borno state governor advised his colleagues to consider converting all boarding schools to day schools in kidnapping-prone areas in view of the incessant kidnapping of school children.
He further advised the military authorities to prioritse protection of critical infrastructure, noting that Borno has been thrown into a seven-week black-out after insurgents damaged electrical installations.
