WhatsApp says it is introducing a new update that allows users exit group chats without generating the usual public notification from the messaging system.

Mark Zuckerberg, the Chief Executive Officer of Meta, which owns WhatsApp, disclosed this in a Facebook update on Tuesday.

Zuckerberg frequently takes to his verified page which has more than 119 million followers to share important updates on Meta-owned products and services.

He wrote, “New privacy features coming to WhatsApp: exit group chats without notifying everyone, control who can see when you’re online, and prevent screenshots on view once messages.

“We’ll keep building new ways to protect your messages and keep them as private and secure as face-to-face conversations.”

The Herald can report that WhatsApp is also introducing a new way for users to hide their online status from specific friends.

According to the platform, the new updates are rolling out this month.

This is coupled with an update last December in which WhatsApp started hiding users’ online status from strangers by default.
