The Enugu State Government has directed recreation and event centre operators in the state to provide insurance cover for users of their facilities.

The Commissioner for Information in the state, Dr Godwin Udeuhele, said this after the State Executive Council meeting in Enugu on Friday night.

He said the directive was aimed at providing some measures of protection for users of such facilities.

The commissioner said that the directive was also sequel to the recent death of two children from same parents at Oakland Recreation Park, Enugu.

“As a result, the state government has directed the review of the operational standards of recreation parks and event centres in the state as well as a monthly evaluation of same.

“All recreation centres are directed to, henceforth, provide insurance cover for users of their facilities,’’ he said.

Udeuhele said that the state government, however, exonerated the management of Oakland Park, having discovered that the affected facility was in good shape prior to its usage by the deceased.

The commissioner also said that the council approved the execution of N2.1 billion worth of projects in its rural development scheme.

He said 35 projects including roads, school buildings, water projects and bridges, among others, had been identified while contracts had been awarded to reputable firms for immediate execution.

According to him, the road projects will be done in phases subject to availability of funds.
