About 3 months ago, pictures emerged online of Jay Z’s cousin and music executive Brian “Bee-High” Biggs meeting with Chocolate City artists M.I and Ice Prince. Most wondered what the meeting was about and what it meant for the Choc Boys. Now, details have emerged that as a result of that meeting, M.I’s next album will be released on Tidal.
Even though the Chocolate City CEO is not the first Nigerian musician to release his music via Tidal, (That honor goes to Naeto C who released his third album titled Day 1 on the same platform some weeks ago.) a date has not been fixed for the release of the project.
“I can’t give you a date for the release of the album but I can inform you that I have been speaking with people at Tidal.” he told ExpressNG.
He also revealed how he has been able to combine both his music and running Chocolate City: “This is probably my most productive period. I am shooting a lot of videos. I am also making a lot of music. I have seventy songs left over from the Mr Chairman album. I recorded them as an EP but I don’t want to put them out now.”
Asked if he was satisfied with doing just music, the ‘Bullion Van’ rapper answered: “I also want to go into clothing and stuffs like that, he revealed adding, “I am willing to go into fashion but you know, you need to be very careful because fashion has its own attitude. In fashion you have to be very careful but there is a serious plan for that. We will get there.”
M.I Abaga already has three albums to his credit namely Talk About It (2008), M.I 2 (2010) and The Chairman (2014).
Acquired in March 2015 by American music mogul, Jay Z, Tidal is a subscription-based music streaming service that now boasts of 25 million tracks and 75,000 music videos. It also claims to pay the highest percentage of royalties to music artists and songwriters within the music streaming market.
