Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, at the weekend told Naval personnel in Calabar, warning them to respect members of the public and to avoid causing the force unnecessary expenditures.

The CNS said the Nigerian Navy paid over N1billion as fines for misconduct by its personnel in the past four years.

He warned Ratings to be very careful in the discharge of their duties, saying there were pending cases against them at the courts with attendant fines.

“I call on all of you to relate well with the civilian populace. We are supposed to be protecting the civilians and not to harass or molest them. The Navy under me would not condone any act of barbarism. If you misuse the weapon we give you, we will try you and dismiss you’’, he said.

He advised the personnel to always report misconduct by members of the public to the appropriate authorities.

He added that efforts are on to ensure that the professional skills of Ratings are upgraded and better accommodation provided for them.
