National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) is set to decentralise the operation of health insurance in the country.

The Scheme organised a series of advocacy visits to state governors across the country to secure their understanding and cooperation.

In a statement by the Head, Media & PR Division of NHIS, Ayo Osinlu, the state wide visits started in Kaduna State because of the pragmatic nature of the governor of the state, Mallam Nasir El Rufai.

Akingbade, who was received by the Deputy Governor, Arch. Barnabas Bala Bantex said the Scheme has developed the State Supported Social Health Insurance Programme (SSHIP) targeted at increasing health access for every Nigerian Citizen.

Akingbade said “The NHIS will match up funds the state puts into the programme with resources accruing from the National Health Act, so that the state generate sufficient capacity to deliver an effective health insurance programme on a sustainable basis.”

Bantex commended NHIS for taking steps to ensure that Nigerians have access to health care without regards to financial, physical or geographical constraints.
