Nigeria youth international, Kelechi Nwakali has been named as Arsenal’s best on loan player as the season gradually draws to a close.

The 18-year old is on loan at Dutch second-division club MVV Maastricht from Arsenal, and after an impressive first season in Europe, has been voted the club’s best on-loan player by respected Arsenal youth team expert, Jeorge Bird.

Nwakali, who is the captain of the Nigeria U20 side, was voted ahead of England-born players with Nigerian descent, Chuba Akpom and Aaron Eyoma who spent the second half of this season on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion and FC Volendam respectively.

“Krystian Bielik was excellent for Birmingham City but in terms of performances throughout the season, this award deserves to go to Nwakali,” Bird wrote on Kelechi.

“The Nigerian midfielder possessed no prior experience of European football, yet he quickly established himself as a regular for Maastricht in the Dutch second tier and frequently burst forwards to excellent effect.”
