The long arm of the law caught up with five suspected armed robbers with three of them shot dead by the Ogun State Police Command and the other two were arrested.

The state police spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad had been on the trail of the robbers for almost a month before they swooped on their den in the Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area.

“The armed robbers, on sighting the SARS operatives, opened fire on them and there was a gun battle. Three of the robbers were killed. Two were arrested, while others escaped with fatal bullet wounds.”

Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said two Berretta pistols, loaded with three rounds of live ammunition, one locally-made revolver pistol, one locally-made long-barrelled gun, among others, were recovered from the robbers.

He added, “The command appeals to the general public, particularly medical practitioners, to be on the look-out for any patients with suspected bullet wounds and notify any police formation around them of such.”

Adejobi said the state Commissioner of Police, Valentine Ntomchukwu, had directed a thorough investigation into the activities of the robbers in the state in general, adding that the report would assist the police in combating crime.
