Unrest in Akwa Ibom as SAS Police Officers arrest Governor’s aide

SAS Police Officers believed to be working for the Federal Government have invaded the house of the Special Assistant to the Akwa Ibom State Governor on Marketing and Brand Management, Ime Uwah in Uyo, the state capital.

The SAS Police officers who were reported to have arrived in a Toyota Hiace bus with license registration number, EY 527 KJA belonging to Lagos on Monday night were said to have been sent to arrest the Governor’s aide over allegations of possessing weapons, ammunition and police uniforms.

The said items alleged to be in his possession were said to have been kept in his farm ahead of the rerun elections in the State.

According to source, the officers who claimed to have received an anonymous petition followed the Governor’s aide to his farm located along Airport road and after thorough search of the property refused to release Uwah, claiming he had to be taken to Lagos to have his statement taken and documented.

A source revealed that supporters of the Akwa Ibom State Governor have barricaded the Police command in Uyo where Uwah is being held pending the investigation reports of the Assistant Commissioner of Police.

Another source reported that the supporters are determined to stop the SAS Police officers from taking Uwah to Lagos or anywhere outside the state.
