Controversial Islamic cleric, Sheik Ahmad Gumi has urged his followers not to vote for politicians that will not negotiate with bandits.
Gumi, the Mufti and mufassir at the Kaduna central mosque Sultan Bello, described the bandits as warriors who should not be killed.
A video of the cleric’s recent sermons has surfaced online, sparking social media outrage.
In the sermon in which he spoke Hausa, Gumi said that the bandits deserved to be granted amnesty.
“Don’t vote for those who will fight bandits. The fighters are our warriors in the forest……. Our people in the forest.
“So vote for those who after attaining power will call and negotiate with our people (bandits) so as to give them what they want for peace to reign,” the cleric said.

Gumi has on several occasions visited bandits in the forest, and has consistently called on the Nigerian government to grant amnesty to the bandits, who many of his compatriots describe as criminals.
Many Nigerians took to Twitter to call on the Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest the cleric.
