21-year-old student attempts suicide over suspected cheating girlfriend

A 21-year-old man is currently fighting for survival at the Rugarama hospital after slitting his own throat in an attempt to commit suicide.

The 21-year-old, a student of Bishop Braham University College Kabale, Uganda identified as Obed Muhoozi, slit his own throat over suspicions that his girlfriend was having another affair.

The incident was reported to have happened in his Top View Hostel dormitory room at about 4pm on Tuesday, friends of the suicidal Muhoozi reported that the boy was unhappy with the state of things with his girlfriend identified only as Nahabwe.

The friends revealed that Muhoozi, a first year student of Social Work and Social Administration had called Nahabwe, his girlfriend and also a student of the campus who had promised earlier to spend Women’s Day with him but her phone was instead picked up by another male.

Distraught and emotionally unbalanced, Muhoozi grabbed a knife and slit his own throat. His friends however managed to sabotage his plan as they rushed him to the hospital where he currently is fighting for survival.

Doctors reports that he has lost a lot of blood. The Dean of the University, Godwin Kizza also confirmed the incident but declined answers to further questions.
