30 reportedly killed as suspected bandits attack Kaduna villages

Not fewer than 30 people have been killed by suspected bandits in some villages in Igabi and Giwa local government areas of Kaduna state.

The affected villages are Kerawa, Rago, Marina, Zariyawa, Hashimawa, Gidan Musa Saidu, and Unguwar Barau.  A source from one of the affected areas reported that Nigerian Army and Air Force attacked the bandits and killed many of them in the process.

In a related development, there was a tragedy in Kaduna state on Wednesday night as gunmen opened fire on traders in Maro Market, located in Adara Chiefdom of Kajuru local government area of the state, killing seven people.

The incident occurred around 7:30pm while the traders were preparing to close for the day. Reports stated that the gunmen did not take away anything from the traders.

According to the reports, “so far we were told seven corpses have been discovered from the scene and the District Head is on his way there to see things for himself. I will give you more details later.”

The Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Muhammad Jalige, however, vowed to get the details of the attack and make them known to the public.

Earlier, The Herald reported that bandits locked 16 members of the same family in a house and set it on fire, killing all of them in the process in a Kaduna village.

The bandits numbering over 100 reportedly besieged Bakali village in Fatika District, Giwa LGA, sending villagers scampering for safety.

The bandits were said to have invaded the community at 4:00 pm on Tuesday and set fire on many bags of grains, vehicles, and motorcycles.

Daily Trust quoted a villager, Alhaji Sani Bakali, as saying that the unexpected invasion caused great harm to the village. The motive for the attack remains unknown. The state police command has yet to confirm the incident.
