The Borno Government has advised Muslims to be vigilant as they troop to various Eid grounds to offer prayers at the end of Ramadan.

Gov. Kashim Shettima gave the advice when he spoke with newsmen on Tuesday.
Shettima also advised the residents to see security as a collective responsibility rather than the duty of security agents alone.

He said that government would introduce stringent security checks to ensure safety at the various Eid grounds in the state.
“There will be enhanced security checks and we ask the people to be patient with us.
“There will be enhanced security checks at the various Eid grounds, so worshipers should go out early enough to prevent delays,’’ Shettima said.
He said unlike in previous years, there would be no restriction of movement in the state during the Sallah celebrations.

Shettima said that government decided to allow free movement following improvement in the security situation in the state.
He further said that the decision followed extensive deliberation by the “State Security Council and after weighing all the options’’.
“We have resolved not to restrict movement of persons or vehicles in the state during this year’s Sallah celebrations,’’ Shettima said.
The governor said government had also decided to allow free movement of persons to and fro the state during the celebrations.

“We have equally resolved not to restrict entry or exit into Maiduguri and other parts of the state during the Sallah.’’
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that this is first time in six years that the state will celebrate religious festival without restriction of movement for fear of Boko Haram attacks. (NAN)
