The Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) has been accused of spreading false information about Segun Olatunji, the General Editor of First News, who was recently abducted and detained for 12 days.
According to Olatunji, the DIA is attempting to tarnish his image by peddling lies against him through obscure online news websites. He described the allegations as “pure lies, tales by moonlight, an afterthought, and an attempt by the DIA to tarnish his image.”
Olatunji was abducted on March 15 and held for 12 days by the DIA, sparking widespread condemnation from media organizations and human rights groups. His detention was seen as a crackdown on press freedom and an attempt to silence critical voices in the media.
The DIA has yet to respond to Olatunji’s allegations, but the incident has raised concerns about the agency’s tactics and its willingness to target journalists who are critical of the government.
The Nigerian Union of Journalists and other media organizations have condemned the DIA’s actions and called for an investigation into Olatunji’s detention and the allegations against him.
