The Sokoto State Zakkat and Endowment Commission on Monday received animals from Sen. Aliyu Wamakko (APC-Sokoto) as his 2018 Zakkat.

The Chairman of the Commission, Malam Lawal Maidoki, collected the animals from Magatakarda farm located in Sokoto.

Maidoki said that the farm was the first to give out animals as zakkat to the commission since its formation as committee and now commission.

He commended the lawmaker’s focus in supporting the activities of the commission since its inception and urged wealthy individuals or group to emulate the gesture, to assist the needy in the state.

“Our hope is to successfully achieve the required need of the needy among the society.
“As such, we always preach for zakat to be given out as enshrined in the teachings of Islam to purify as well as increase in wealth.

“Moreover, giving out Zakkat and endowment to the needy will not reduce our wealth; rather, it improves it,’’ he said.

He further added that Zakkat as prescribed in the teachings of Islam was a divine intervention and commended Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of the state for supporting the commission’s activities.

Earlier, Malam Muhammad Dangande, an Arabic scholar who counted the Zakkat, said that the importance of giving the alms as one of the pillars of Islam, could not be over emphasised.

“Giving out Zakkat is the fulfillment of faith in Islam which ensures purity of wealth as well as enables reduction of poverty among the society.

“Moreover, giving Zakkat as an obligatory act in Islam is necessary as it ensures a better relationship with Allah and the entire society,’’ Dangande said.

He added that three cows and a sheep were to be taken out from the farm as Zakkat, as the farm had 91 cows, 36 sheep and 6 goats.(NAN)
