Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on the Federal Government to beef up security in towns around Nigeria’s borders.
He made the call on Tuesday following reports of the bombing of a crowded bridge in Gamboru, Borno State that left 30 persons dead.
At least 35 other persons were injured in the incident that occurred at 5 pm on Monday, Reuters reported.
Gamboru is a border town linking Nigeria to Cameroon.
In a statement he personally signed and shared on Twitter, Atiku, who contested for the presidency in 2019, said he was saddened by the loss of lives in the attack.
He urged the military to prevent a recurrence through strengthening security around border towns.
Atiku further prayed for the repose of the lost souls and commiserated with the families affected in the Gamboru bombing.
The former vice president wrote: “I am saddened by reports of the death of no fewer than 30 people in a bridge bomb attack in Gamboru, Borno State.
“May the souls of the deceased rest in peace and their families comforted.
“Security must be beefed up across border towns.”
