Customs asks FG to mull tax on carbonated drinks

Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has proposed that tax be levied on carbonated drinks in order to generate more revenue for the government.

Hameed Ali, Comptroller General of the Service made the proposition to the House of Representatives Committee on Finance on Thursday according to Daily Trust

The Customs boss disclosed levying taxes on carbonated drinks which is highlyy consuumed by Nigerians will speed up the achievement of revenue target.

Hameed Ali further said that alcoholic drinks and tobacco have excise taxes that they pay.

Speaking on the harm that carbonated drinks cause, the customs Comptroller-General admonished the government to seize the avenue in order to generate more revenue at a fast pace.
