The Plateau Ministry of Solid Minerals Development has said that it is working toward generating N500 million revenue in 2020.
The Commissioner, Mr Jude Dakur, said this on Monday in Jos when Plateau House of Assembly Committee on Environment and Solid Minerals visited him.
Dakur told the committee that the ministry in 2019 generated N23 million revenue for the state.
He said that the ministry had so far generated N10 million from January this year to date.
He said that the State Government had registered a company that would commence mining of lead as part of the efforts to meet the set target.
“The Plateau Minerals Development Company (PMDC) has been licensed and will soon commence mining.
“We are targeting N500 million as revenue for the year, 2020,” the commissioner said.
He further said that the ministry was proposing a bill that would boost revenue generation through solid minerals in the state.
He solicited the support of the legislators for the passage of the bill when presented to the assembly.
The Chairman of the committee, Mr Hudu Bala, told the commissioner that they were in the ministry to familiarise themselves with the activities of the ministry.
Bala said that the committee was ready to collaborate with the ministry for the overall good of the state.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the committee was also at the Ministry of Environment and Sanitation where the Commissioner, Mr Yakubu Idi, said they were doing their best to improve the sanitation of the state.
Idi told the committee that the ministry and its agencies were in dire need of equipment and funds to function effectively.
