Ganduje Relaxes Lockdown on Kano Imposed by Federal Government

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has relaxed the lockdown order issued by the Federal Government in Kano State.

According to Governor Ganduje who spoke to journalists on Saturday, free movement will be allowed in the state on Mondays and Thursdays between the hours of 10am and 4pm.

President Muhammadu Buhari had imposed a two week long total lockdown on Kano following the prevalence of coronavirus cases in the state on April 27.

Ganduje said further that all the major markets in the state remain closed save for Ya’nkaba and Ya’nlemo markets where vegetable and fruits sellers converge.

He also revealed that supermarkets would be allowed to open within the time frame of grace given during the week, but must ensure that customers follow COVID-19 protocols before gaining entry their premises.

“We have provided face masks, to be distributed to the people. I directed chairmen of the local government to also provide the face masks for their people. Afterwards, we will make it compulsory for everybody to wear it,” he insisted in the statement.

Ganduje said Billionaire Aliko Dangote donated mobile testing centres to the state with the capacity of testing 1000 people per week.

“The more we are getting the test, the more people who contracted the virus would be exposed and the more we stamp out the disease in our state.

“What we just want is for the public to adhere strictly to the protocols of the COVID-19 and abide by the lockdown order in order to break the chain of the transmission.”

Ganduje assured the people that the lockdown would be relaxed some more if they obeyed the social distancing rules set by the government.

The Kano state Governor had tried without success to lobby the Federal Government to relax the lockdown in consideration of the month of Ramadan.
