The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has moved to stop pension payments to former governors and deputy governors in the state.
Sanwo-Olu made the disclosure while submitting the 2021 Budget estimates to the State House of Assembly on Tuesday.
The governor said that an Executive Order seeking to repeal the controversial Public Office Holder Payment of Pension Law, which prescribes pension for former governors and deputy governors in the state would soon be forwarded to the House.

“Mr. Speaker and honourable members of the House, in light of keeping the costs of governance low and to signal selflessness in public service, we will be sending a draft executive bill to the House for the repeal of the Public Office Holder (Payment of Pension Law 2007).
“It provides for payment of pension and other entitlements to former governors and their deputies,” the governor said.

Chief Lateef Jakande; National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola; Akinwunmi Ambode; Sanwo-Olu and their successors as well as deputy governors will be affected.
