American actor and martial artist, Michael Jai White has penned an emotional 30th birthday message to his son, Devin Michael White.
The actor, 53, took to Facebook to share the message late Monday.
Michael Jai White, who starred as Mike Tyson in the 1995 HBO film Tyson, equally shared photos of himself with his son as a child and an adult.

You grew up as the son of a single father who was the son of a single mom. You had a parade of substitute moms (via my exes) and a dad who cast a large shadow yet you found your own light. At a time of “my dad could whip your dad” you kept me a secret and insisted I picked you up from school around the corner in my fancy actor-mobile as not to embarrass you. You knew your own mother’s absence was beyond her control and not your fault.
You were always your own person, mature beyond your years. I respect the fact that you don’t even use social media so I hope you can forgive me for this public address. I just think I earned the right to publicly sing your praises as you’ve earned the right to hear them.
We bumped heads on your way to adulthood and my “Coachdad” approach to parenting might’ve left much to be desired. Truth is; I still had some growing up to do as well. For a while we weren’t each other’s favorites and I wasn’t sure where we’d end up.
Now, you’ve become the man that I always knew you could be and kickin it with you has become one of my favorite things in life to do. You’re a world traveler and a brilliant thinker who expands my knowledge each time we talk. Who’d have thought that little dude I brought home from the hospital would turn out to be one of my best friends?
