Nigerian fan dies after Chelsea’s FA Cup loss

The Lagos State Police Command says it is still investigating the circumstances that led to the death of Chika Uba, a Chelsea fan, shortly after he took his girlfriend to watch his team lose to Leicester City in the FA Cup final on May 15.

It was learnt that Uba and his girlfriend, Amaka Joseph, 32, went to watch the game at Runway Bar on Adeniyi Jones Avenue in Ikeja.

However, shortly after bringing his lover back to her residence on Ogunsolu Street, Cement area of Ikeja, Uba was said to have started acting strangely.

An alarmed Joseph reportedly alerted a male neighbour, Macaulay Justice, who assisted her to rush the victim to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja.

Uba was said to have died on the way to the hospital and a doctor on duty pronounced him dead on arrival.

Confirming the incident, state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olumuyiwa Adejobi said that Joseph reported the matter on May 16 at the police station and investigation had commenced.
