Peoples Democratic Party chairman Alhaji Bamanga Tukur is reportedly refusing to step down from his leadership position within the party despite several calls for him to do so.

President Jonathan has reportedly also called on the octogenarian to step aside in order for peace to reign in the party, but Tukur is reportedly refusing to back down.

Tukur was quoted as saying: “I am agile, active and healthy to lead the PDP. I have no any challenge.”

He also reportedly warned the party against any illegal or unconstitutional attempts to remove him from his position as PDP chair.

Sources said the President agreed to dump Tukur after consultations with PDP stalwarts of whom the majority were against his continued leadership of the Party.

A source told newsmen from Nation, “As a democrat and the National Leader of the party, the President and the governors have no choice than to accept the decision of the majority. The consensus is that Tukur must go.

“Although the President acknowledged the sacrifice Tukur made to serve PDP at old age, he said the party ought to move forward as overwhelmingly demanded by stakeholders.

“The alternative for Tukur is to accept another public offer as the President deems fit. I think the President might still accommodate Tukur in what may look like a ‘no victor, no vanquished’ deal.

  • Come to think of it, what idea has a 80 year old got in this generation? Can his brain be functioning properly to meet the challenges of today? Why are the Africans so greedy? Yet Mandela was praised by all can’t we follow his steps?
