According to the Punch, this move, far from being gracious, was done to save his skin from impeachment.

It had been expected that Ambode would fight this, but instead the governor conceded defeat bringing an end to months of struggling against the current.

The Lagos governor held a press conference at about 4pm yesterday where he admitted to defeat and wished Sanwo-Olu all the best.

According to the Punch, this move according to their sources in both the Governor and Tinubu camps, was in a bid to ease tensions and assure of his loyalty to the party and also to avert the possibility of impeachment.

“He (Ambode) did not want the matter to get to that level; that is why he accepted the defeat to reduce the tension in the state and stop any panicky action by the party elders. He also wanted them to leave him in peace to complete all his projects,” said the Punch’s source.
