The northern Arewa youth leader was arrested while leading protests in Katsina on Tuesday and allegedly transferred to the force headquarters in Abuja.

The coalition accused Femi Adesina of insulting Northern Elders and denigrating the person of Professor Anglo Abdullahi, which provoked a response from their leaders.

In a statement signed by its national President, Alhaji Yerima Shettima, the AYCF said it is demanding for the unconditional release of Shariff based on the rights of citizens to protest as enshrined in the constitution.

The Arewa group said it found it odd for a peaceful protester to be arrested by the police under a democratic system of governance.

They alluded to the fact that even President Buhari once benefitted from peaceful street protests many years back and it was helpful to his democratic struggles.
