An Australian Paralympic sailor and official were robbed at gunpoint in Rio de Janeiro, officials said on Tuesday.
Australian Sailing said in a statement that Athlete Liesl Tesch and team official Sarah Ross were riding bikes in a park near their hotel when they were confronted by two men, one carrying a pistol.

“Their bikes were the only property stolen during the incident,’’ the statement said, adding that the members were unharmed but shaken.

The sailing association said that the team competed in a race later in the day, adding that investigations into the incident were ongoing.

In May, three members of Spain’s Olympic sailing team were robbed at gunpoint in a popular tourist area in Rio de Janeiro.

Security is one of the main concerns for organisers hosting the Olympics, which were slated to open on August 5.
