In a recent interview with Cool FM Nigeria, Afrobeat sensation Ayra Starr, whose song ‘Rush’ received a nomination in the inaugural Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammys, shared her anticipation and confidence ahead of the prestigious event. The Mavin Records artist revealed that she has already prepared an acceptance speech for the momentous occasion.
Ayra Starr expressed her readiness for the Grammy Awards, emphasizing the significance of the first African category at the event. “I have my Grammys speech ready. It is quite long because it is the first African category. I already know my walk, my outfit,” she confidently stated.
Despite facing tough competition from notable artists like Davido, Burna Boy, and others, Ayra Starr exuded confidence in her preparedness to win. When asked about her plans after a potential victory, she humorously shared, “The first thing I would do when I win is go to a Chinese restaurant and eat, then video call my mum.”
The 66th Grammy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 4, 2024, in Los Angeles. Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush’ will be vying for the maiden Best African Music Performance award alongside tracks by industry peers such as Davido, Burna Boy, Asake, Olamide, and Tyla.
