The case of the kidnapping of the Chairman of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area, Mr Kehinde Bamigbetan took a twist yesterday as reports say he has been released, but he is yet to be seen by anybody, including his wife.

A ransom, rumoured to have been put together by the Lagos State Government and a former governor of the state, was said to have been dropped at a point around Obadore along LASU-Igando expressway on Friday as directed by the abductors.

It was also gathered that the kidnappers had not picked the ransom for the fear of being arrested by the police who they believed were trailing them.

While some reports said that Bamigbetan had gone to the home of his former boss after his release in order to get rest and avoid disturbance from thousands of people who thronged his home, another version has it that he has been released but was kept at an unnamed hospital for test and treatment and also to allow him rest.

As at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, Bamigbetan’s wife said she wasunaware of her husband’s whereabouts but expressed her hope that he would be released.

However, the acting Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, Damascus Ozoani, said the reports that Bamigbetan had been released as mere “rumour”, but added the  police in the state were working to ensure that the missing council  chair is rescued.
