The Supreme Court has affirmed Duoye Diri and Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo as duly-elected Bayelsa Governor and Deputy Governor respectively.

According to Channels Television, a seven-man panel of the apex court in a unanimous decision affirmed their victory on Wednesday.

The panel led by Justice Sylvester Ngwuta dismissed the six appeals filed against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates on the grounds that the appellants had withdrawn their appeals.

Alliance for Democracy, Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party, Labour Movement, and Accord Party filed the dismissed appeals.

Diri was sworn in as Bayelsa governor in 2019 after the Supreme Court sacked the Governor-elect, David Lyon of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Since his inauguration, the Bayelsa State Gubernatorial Election Petition Tribunal has dismissed several petitions against his emergence.
