The Chairman, Bayelsa Environmental Sanitation Authority (BESA), Mr. Tolu Amatu, has died.

It was learnt that Amatu slumped in his home at Baybridge, Kpansia, Yenagoa late Saturday and died before getting to the hospital.

Before becoming BESA boss, he was Chairman of Ekeremor Local Government Area during the administration of former Governor, Seriake Dickson.

He also vied for the PDP ticket for the Sagbama/ Ekeremor Federal Constituency seat but was unsuccessful.

Amatu was said to have complained of serious leg pains on Friday and took some medications.

On Saturday, he reportedly complained of having waist pain, stomach ache and constipation.

A family member was said to have advised him to take oranges.

However, Amatu collapsed on Saturday evening and was rushed to a hospital along Saptex road Yenizue-Epie suburb of the state capital where he was pronounced dead.

“He complained of leg pains and took medication. Then yesterday (Saturday), he said he had waist pains and that he had not gone to toilet. He was told to take oranges and others, which he did.

“He was then told to rest, but later he went to the hotel to pay his staff around 5pm. When he returned (home), he went upstairs and collapsed. Sadly, he died before getting to the clinic where he was rushed to. His death came as a shock,” a source said.
