Beaten in Europe: Athletico Madrid beats Liverpool in UCL first leg

1 Min Read

Liverpool’s hopes of successfully defending their champions league crown have suffered a setback after losing to Athletico Madrid away in Madrid on Tuesday night.

The reds were outwitted in their own game as Athletico hassled and hurried the champions all night long limiting them to just two clear chances.

The first of the opportunities fell to Mo Salah’s head which he put wide and the second was a hooked shot from Henderson which missed the Jan Oblak’s far post.

Klopp replaced Sadio Mane and Salah with Divock Origi and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain but neither made an impact.

A 4 minute lead from Saul who fired home after the ball fell from Fabinho was enough to give the Spanish side a famous victory on the night.
