Beware of impersonators, EFCC warns public

2 Min Read

The EFCC has warned members of the public to disregard calls purportedly from its acting chairman, asking for payments to be made either to nominated proxies or bank accounts.

Mr Wilson Uwujaren, the commission`s Head of Media and Publicity, gave the warning in a statement he issued in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to the statement, such calls do not emanate from Mr Ibrahim Magu, the commission`s acting boss.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the EFCC Chairman, indeed all officials of the agency, do not solicit for, nor accept payments or gratification from persons or organisations under any guise.’’

The statement enjoined members of the public to report anyone claiming to be acting on behalf of the commission`s acting chairman or other officials at any of its offices in the country.

It added that members of the public could also report such persons to the nearest police station.

The statement described persons involved in the act as fraudsters who had been impersonating the commission`s boss and extorting money from members of the public under various guises.

It added that the fraudsters had been making calls to close contacts of the commission`s boss and other prominent personalities, demanding for huge sums of money.

According to the statement, such persons have used a Facebook account in the name of the EFCC boss to solicit for friendship from prominent individuals and for all manner of favours. (NAN)
