Buhari Takes Polio Eradication Campaign to Daura

In a bid to make Nigeria Polio Free by 2017, President Muhammadu Buhari has taken the polio eradication campaign to his country home, Daura, Katsina State.

On Saturday, he administered Oral Polio Vaccines (OPV) on some children at his residence.

NAN reports that this event took place in the presence of Katsina State Gov. Aminu Masari and the Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Health, Dr Ahmad Qabasiyyu and Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouq.

Masari noted that Katsina state has not recorded any case of Polio in three years. He calle don parents to always vaccinate their children against the deadly virus.

Meanwhile the Information Officer of Dutse Local Government Council in Jigawa State Malam Ya’u Garba, has revealed that the council is targeting 111,000 children for immunization against polio virus in the forthcoming exercise, scheduled to commence on September 8.

Garba said 603 ad hoc staff are expected to participate in the exercise that will last for five days.

He said about 111,272 children were immunized against polio in the last exercise.
