The organizers of the prestigious MTV EMA Awards have expanded their horizons by including this specific category, acknowledging the immense influence and global reach of Afrobeats music. The nominees for ‘Best Afrobeats’ were unveiled on a Wednesday, with talents like French-Malian superstar Aya Nakamura, and renowned Nigerian singers Asake, Arya Starr, Burna Boy, Davido, and Rema all making the cut.
Furthermore, Rema’s collaborative hit ‘Calm Down’ with Selena Gomez has been nominated in both the ‘Best Song’ and ‘Best Collaboration’ categories.
In the ‘Best African Act’ category, the competition is fierce, featuring Asake, Burna Boy, Cameroonian superstar Libianca, Tanzanian sensation Diamond Platnumz, and South Africa’s Tyler ICU.
Burna Boy has achieved yet another nomination in the ‘Best Live Performer’ category. He finds himself alongside global icons such as Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, and The Weeknd, among others.
