Archbishop of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan has criticized President Muhammadu Buhari over disregarding court orders, demanding the release of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu.

He said: “There is no sign that Nigeria has the president. The problem President Buhari has is that many Nigerians want to continue as they were doing before and they want everybody else to change, but not themselves.”

“Democracy is all about the rule of law. Three times he has disobeyed court orders in less than a year in office. “Disobedience to court orders by those who should protect and ensure its compliance slides the Nation to anarchy.

“It is wrong to undermine the Constitution of Nigeria which is the bases of the Nigerian nation and expects people not to resist such via protesting. For those supporting president can you please justify why he has refused to obey court orders?

The prominent cleric added: “My dear President Buhari, it will be in the best interest of the nation that you obey court orders and apologize to the nation for the embarrassments you have caused us which have led to peaceful demonstrations in virtually major parts of Southern Nigeria.

“You should in the best interest of the nation set up a truth and reconciliation committee and compensate families of those killed. You should have obeyed as ordered by the court; ask your DSS to obey court orders, release Nnamdi Kanu and tender an unreserved apology to him for the embarrassments you have caused him, his wife, family, and millions of his followers by detaining him and infringing on his rights without good reason.”

Kanu was arrested in Lagos in October on conspiracy and terrorism charges, which were later dropped.

  • It is quite unfortunate that some Nigerians can’t have a decent conversation or argument and contribute to issues without swearing. Sometimes I wonder what planet they are from.

    • Buhari is a total idiot. If a president can ignore and disobey court order it means he is a satan incarnate. Even the worst of presidents in the world never joke with court order. I see Mr Buhari ending in a very bitter and pitiable way. He cannot even finish his mandate. His satanic ambitions are too visible.

        • muritala tadho u must b very very stupid,,,foolish, crazy and mad…may thunder fire u and ur entire generation for defending buhari even wen is obivous that his govt is not capable of taking nigerian to the next level…and for uttering foolish comments here……..mind u is just matter of time….boko haram like u……..dansika……sehkeyaa like u….idiot like u

  • If Onaiyekan’so vituperation is true, Nigerians should ask him who’s interests he serves, the Almighty God and his country, Nigeria,or that of a demented soul like Kanu. The “clergy” should go and read the Nigerian constitution and especially what it says about treason. I will also ask him to read and understand the scriptures as all believers do. Occasionally dabbling into issues of security and politics the way this “man of God” does leaves much to be desired.

    • And if the court that knows that constitution more than you and Buhari declares a subject free and ordered for his release, the no 1 citizen of the country should disobey that? The problem we have in this country is that we bring in ethnicity and religion and allow that to becloud our sense of judgement.

  • President Buhari’s administration is no different from military regime. He should be wearing army uniform instead of plain cloth.

    • Mathias you’re wrong. If Buhari was to behave like a military man Saraki, Fayose, Jonathan, and all the rest of the co-looters would be in jail by now. But he’s letting the law take its course. You see you can’t satisfy the world. While some people said he’s too laid back and not putting his foot down and commanding the judge to do end the trials and send the looters to jail, some of you are saying he’s behaving like he’s still in the military. How? Because he can’t be bullied? Nigeria needs a tough man who can’t be bullied by every Joe Blow out there who thinks he/she knows it all.

  • Buhari is demented, clueless and a compound of brainless fool, what can he offer this country except cattle rearing, this is a good lesson to all those stupid followers of his who are bereaved of good sense of judgment, thunder will strike all of you and your so called fool you call a president

  • I hope my people can see why I have always been telling them that the yorubas are not our enemies. This man’s name is “John Olorunfemi Onaiyekan”, a yoruba man, a great and staunch supporter of our liberation from the hands of the oppressors. My Lagos landlord and landlady, both yoruba couple) have always been a great inspiration to me. He has severally accused Buhari and his government of disobeying the court for the release of Kanu and also for his doing nothing in the face of several killings and attacks being perpetrated by Boko Haram terrorists turned herdsmen. God bless you Cardinal John Olorunfemi Onaiyekan for speaking out while others are too scared to speak or enjoying the continued incarceration of the patriotic and unarmed youngman.

  • John onaiyekan or thing be your name. I want to ask simple question just tell me one country in the world that has ever grant bail to treasonable offender. Whoever did so must be stupid and maybe you are of them that is why you are accusing Buhari .

  • It’s all a lie. The cardinal already wrote a letter of disclaimer that he didn’t grant such interview. That it’s all a lie. Please see the attached letter.

  • Balderdash. This Cardinal is either naive or a detractor. Nigeria fought a civil war for one reason, and you’re now saying we should forget that lesson? A lesson is meant to create understanding to our path. You think we’re so stupid to harken to the drums of warmongers who are trying to sell arms and break up the country for their own selfish and profiteering motive? Forget the wailing of a Biafra, it’s a delusion of time past. Too many souls, tell your mentors to get out of Ireland and Scotland and we will see how altruistic they are. No more hegemony and no more Neo colonization I’m Nigeria. What is, is what is.
