Popular entertainer-cum-activist, Charles Oputa popularly called Charly Boy has denied causing the arrest of a Nigerian soldier.

This is after the soldier identified as Emmy Benison on Instagram posted a video in which he criticised the government on the social media app.

Charly Boy had reposted the soldier’s video, after a friend recommended it to him, which caused the soldier’s superiors to detain him for 36 days.

However, the soldier claimed to have reached out to Charly Boy following his ordeal, but the activist denied reposting his video.

A bitter Benison said, “This man (Charly Boy ) is nothing but a liar. He claims to be fighting for justice but he is afraid to stand for what he is fighting for. I was arrested and locked up for 36 days because of this man.

“I reached out to him and he denied ever posting my video. I had respect for you as a man of integrity but you failed me sir.”

However, The Punch quoted Charly Boy as confirming that he reposted the video because of the message in it and has never denied doing so.

He added that he had no knowledge of the soldier’s ordeal as he had no contact with him.

Charly Boy, who is the leader of OurMumuDonDo Movement, said, “I’ve never met such soldier in my life. I remember uploading a video of a soldier, which I got from someone. I reposted the video because I thought it was odd for a solider to be so critical about the government. I don’t know him personally and I don’t know anything about his arrest.”
