Couple Arrested For Alleged Theft Of Babies

The Delta state police command on Saturday arrested a couple for allegedly stealing two babies during a christening ceremony at Ebedei Adonishaka in Ukwuani Local Government Area of the state.

Mr. Zanna Ibrahim, the state Commissioner of Police disclosed this at a press briefing in Asaba.

He said that the suspected couple, who have once been arrested for burglary, confessed to have stolen nine children.

Ibrahim said that the babies were recovered during a police search at the home of the suspects identified as Mr. Emmanuel Udeagwu, 37, from Ogbe-Ofu Quarters, Issele-Uku and Celestina Enebeli, from Isunpe Utagba-Unor, Ndokwa-West, on November 13, 2016.

According to the CP, during interrogation, Udeagwu confessed to the crime.

He added that the male suspect revealed that he sold some of the children to one Madam Uju and Madam Cash at Asaba, who in turn, sold them to prospective buyers across the Niger.

The command also disclosed that a 17-year-old boy, Lucky Eze, was arrested for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s 10-year-old daughter (name withheld) at the Federal Housing Estate, Asaba.

He further said the command recovered 90 bags of cement allegedly stolen by five men who hijacked a truck along Ugbolu-Illah Road near Asaba, driven by one Timothy Obado, a driver with Bua Cement Company, Okpella, Edo State on his way to Abakaliki.

Ibrahim noted that the command would not relent in tackling crime in the state, urging members of the public to cooperate with it.
