Justice Williams Olamide of an Akure High Court has sentenced two domestic staff of the former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Professor Albert Ilemobade, to death by hanging after they were convicted of his murder.

The trial judge said the prosecution was able to prove the three-count charge of conspiracy to murder, murder and robbery against the late professor’s gate man and driver Daniel Itah Effiong and Bamitale Olayemi beyond reasonable doubt.

The convicts were accused of strangulating the septuagenarian in his home and making away with his N5 million-worth 2013 Toyota RAV4 and the sum of N7000.

The bubble however burst when a car dealer they were trying to sell the car to for N400,000 got suspicious because of the price difference and contacted the police.

The convicts had reportedly dumped the late Professor of Veterinary Medicine’s corpse in a generator house.

While delivering his judgment, Justice Olamide said the accused persons were “callous, wicked and inconsiderate when they decided to sniff out life of an elderly person and their benefactor.

As such, the judge noted, they did not deserve the sympathy of the court.
