COVID-19: FG Donates Relief Materials To Borno Govt.

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management has donated 1,800 bags of rice, other food items to Borno Government as palliative to cushion the effect of COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

Alhaji Grema Alhaji, Director Humanitarian Affairs Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, presented the relief items to the state’s officials in Maiduguri on Monday.

Presenting the items, he said that the donation was to support the vulnerable segment of the society who were undergoing hardship as a result of the pandemic.

Alhaji said that the food items, which also include cartons of tomato paste and vegetable oil, would support the  livelihood of the beneficiaries while observing the  COVID-19 lockdown in the state.

Receiveing  the items, Alhaji Usman Kadafur, Borno Deputy Governor, who doubles as the Chairman of the COVID-19 High Powered Committee, commended the federal government for the donation.

He said the relief items would go a long way to complement the efforts of the state government in providing palliatives to  residents.

Kadafur said that the state government had flagged off food distribution to communities as part of  efforts to ease hardship during the lockdown imposed on non essential movement.

He explained that some of the beneficiaries included persons with disabilities, old people and widows as well as other low income earners.

In his remarks, Alhaji Bukar Talba, Chairman ,state Pilliative Committee, assured that the items would be distributed judiciously to the beneficiaries.
