David Silva unsure if he’ll remain at City

Manchester City midfielder, David Silva, has admitted that he may have signed his final professional contract.

The 32-year-old magician penned a new deal with City that will see him through to the end of the 2020 season, but he has hinted he may well call it time on his career thereafter.

The diminutive Spaniard has already quit the international game, and while he still feels good, he admits that may not be the case in a couple of years. “I have two more years on my contract here. I feel great here. I want to stay until the end of my contract and then I’ll see how I feel physically and mentally to carry on,” he told BT Sport.

Meanwhile, his 250th Premier League appearance for the club came last week in a 6-1 win over Huddersfield. He found the target in that game with a brilliant freekick, before which he had shown off son Mateo, whose premature birth caused him to miss matches last term.

“It was very special,” he admitted. “Besides the milestone of it being my 250th game and the goal I scored, having my son there healthy at the Etihad Stadium is something that I will always remember.”

The ex-Valencia playmaker beat club captain Vincent Kompany to that 250-appearance milestone by a week, with the Belgium star expected to make the mark on Saturday against Wolves. And Silva only had words of praise for his long-time team-mate.

“He’s a good captain because he always focuses on the details. He always looks after the best interests of the team,” he said.

“He’s been here for a long time and I think he gives a lot to the team. He is an outstanding player. He gives an additional boost to the team.”

After a jaw-breaking campaign last time out, City have made a strong start to the new season, claiming victories in their opening two fixtures against Arsenal and Huddersfield Town, and drawing against wolves, scoring 9 goals in total.
