DSS Operatives Manhandled me- Governor Wike

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers has allegedly accused officers of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the police of manhandling him.

This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Simeon Nwakaudu, the governor’s Special Assistant on Electronic Media, and made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt on Saturday.

The statement said that some security agents had attempted to arrest a Federal High Court judge in Port Harcourt when the governor arrived at the scene.

According to the statement, the security agents rough-handled and injured the governor’s hand when he attempted to intervene in the matter.

“As they dragged the governor around, they insisted that they must be allowed to leave with the judge,’’ the statement said.

Meanwhile the Rivers chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described Wike’s account of the situation as false and deceptive.

In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Chris Finebone, the APC said the claim of being manhandled was another `bizarre stunt of bravado’ intended to gain cheap popularity.

The party urged the governor to face his issues with the security agents and not hawk insinuations aimed at bringing the APC into it.

“We see all these as a way of trying to convince his collaborators in the judiciary that he will always protect them.

“We believe that Wike’s recklessness before the security agencies is a choice which attracts consequences, he needs to deal with it and avoid dragging the APC into it,’’ it said.(NAN)
