English FA slams £50,000 fine, match ban on Ronaldo

Five-time Ballon D’Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo has received a £50,000 fine and a two-match ban from the English Football Association (FA).

Ronaldo, whose contract was Manchester United contract was terminated on Tuesday, got the FA’s punishment for an earlier incident involving a fan.

The 37-year-old had smashed the fan’s phone during Manchester United’s loss to Everton at Goodison Park last season.

The FA said that it has now concluded its investigation into the April incident, which attracted the punishment.

Mirror UK reported that the punishment handed out by the FA would take effect should any Premier League team sign the Portuguese star, with Chelsea and Newcastle believed to be interested in his signature.

Ronaldo is on Portugal’s team to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

He is expected to play in the team’s Group H game against the Black Stars of Ghana on Thursday.
