Fans hail Kano Pillars Basketball Club as team makes semi-finals in Egypt

Basketball pundits on Wednesday hailed Kano Pillars Basketball Club for their heroics as they qualify for the semi-finals of the ongoing FIBA Africa Club Champions Cup in Egypt.

The New Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that they defeated Algeria’s Groupment Sportief Petroilers 91-81 on Wednesday.

Led by their inspirational Captain, Abubakar Usman, the Nigeria representatives were trailing Algeria 36-39 in the closure of the second quarter but pulled up a superlative performance in the third and fourth quarters.

Abubakar led the scoring chat with 34 points and seven rebounds, while Abdul Yahaya scored 17 points and 4 rebounds and Ejike Ugboaja 16 points and eight rebounds.

Yemi Adesanya, a sports reporter, said that the team did well and so deserved their victory and hoped they would reach the final and claim the first price trophy.

“Awesome results, well done to the players and the coaching crew and best of luck in the semis and hopefully in the final,’’ he told NAN.

Yunusa Lawal described the victory as tremendous and urged the team to keep going up.
“It is a very good result, the team deserves lots of kudos; I wish them well,’’ he said.

Femi Adefeso, another sports reporter said that the team was truly Nigeria’s heroes and hopes they got things right this time around.

“It is a very important victory for the team, they can only do better as the team gets set for the semi-final, we wish them all the extra luck to reach the final,’’ Adefesao said.

NAN reports that the FIBA Africa Club Championship Cup which began on Dec. 7 ends on Dec. 16 when the new champions will be crowned. (NAN)
