Controversy has erupted on social media following the release of Shallipopi’s latest album, “Presido La Pluto” which features Odumodublvck on the track ‘Cast.’ Nigerian female feminists have taken to Twitter to express their dismay over the derogatory lyrics in Odumodublvck’s verse, igniting a heated debate about the portrayal of women in music.
The contentious verse, which includes the lines “IF SHE NO FCK OH IF SHE NO SCK (prrrra) WHO GO PAY FOR HER WIG AND HAND BAG,” has sparked criticism from Nigerians who find the lyrics offensive, accusing the artist of lacking respect for the feminine gender.
In response to the backlash, Odumodublvck, along with his fans, drew comparisons with international artists like Cardi B and Future, highlighting that such explicit lyrics are common in the music industry. Defending his stance, the Abuja rapper argued that his words were targeted at women engaging in transactional relationships to afford a luxurious lifestyle.
Taking to Twitter, Odumodublvck addressed the controversy, stating, “EVEN IF NO BE MISOGYNY DEM MUST SPIN AM TO BUILD AGENDA. PERSON YAB ME I YAB BACK AS I DEY YAB MY GUY. DEM SAY NA MISOGYNY, ALL THOSE MUMU MUMU WORDS TO COIN THEIR AGENDA. YAB WEY BOYS AND GIRLS GO THROWAY FOR STREET DEY LAUGH. UNA MUST TURN AM TO SERIOUS THING. CANCEL HIM CANCEL HIM.”
As the discussions escalate, Twitter feminists continue to call out the rapper for what they perceive as misogynistic lyrics, while dedicated followers maintain their support, arguing that the lyrics shouldn’t be taken seriously.
